Initiatives

There are a number of international initiatives that the UK and the MSCC IWG are involved in. At the moment, there are three initiatives that the IWG is proactively engaging with:

• UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development ("The Decade" or UNDOS)

• Negotiations on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ)

• Development of deep seafloor mineral exploitation regulations via the International Seabed Authority (ISA)

A number of events (e.g. UN Ocean Conference, COP26 and G7 presidency) have been postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic, but the IWG will be a part of these. The website will be updated to reflect the IWG involvement in due course.
