Yuri Artioli
Yuri Artioli is a Senior Scientist who has been working as a Marine Ecosystem Modeller at PML since late 2008. He has a Master degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy), where in 2002 he defended a thesis on “A water quality model for the Lake Belau (Germany) and simulation of remediation intervention”.
Yuri began to study the marine environment at the beginning of 2003, when he started a PhD in hydrodynamics and environmental modelling at the University of Padova, focusing on modelling eutrophication in the coastal areas, and the interactions between society, land and the marine environment.
Yuri's research interests lie in modelling how the shelf sea marine ecosystem responds to the direct and indirect anthropogenic stressors, from climate change to eutrophication to habitat changes, with a particular focus on ocean acidification. One of his main interests is to study how the variability of marine ecosystem contributes to determining the intensity of those impacts.
The final aim of his research is to deepen the understanding of marine ecosystem dynamics in order to provide more robust scientific based information to managers and policy makers in order to better assess the impacts of socio-economic activities and to better plan how to reduce the risk faced by the marine ecosystem.
He has contributed to several UK and European projects (e.g. ELME, EPOCA, MEECE, UKOA-ROAM, SSB) and he is a member of national and international committees including the UK National Partnership for Ocean Prediction and the Biological working Group of the Global Ocean Acidification Observing network.
