In July 2025, UK and US colleagues returned to the Florida Straits to recover the suite of biogeochemical sensors deployed the previous summer. Working from the research vessel R/V F.G. Walton Smith, the team successfully retrieved instruments measuring pCO2, pH, nitrate, temperature, salinity, oxygen, and ocean currents (ADCP) from the deep waters at the beginning of the Gulf Stream.

Mooring recovery

This latest recovery marks the completion of a full 24‑month observational period, providing an extended and highly valuable record of biogeochemical and physical variability in this key region. The sensor datasets will now undergo full data processing and analysis, supporting ongoing efforts to better understand the changing dynamics of the Gulf Stream system.
