Engaging with Industry
As the UK moves towards being a carbon neutral country, science and industry have a shared interest in understanding the oceans that runs from the supply chains underpinning the national infrastructure to the use of collected data.
UKRI has an ambitious target of becoming a net zero organisation by 2040, and as part of this transition, it is seeking innovative, low carbon solutions to replace legacy research infrastructure while continuing to deliver world leading science. The NZOC team of national experts are now investigating the drivers and enablers of future oceanographic research as they seek to understand the emerging technologies and operating models that will define a future research environment that is both environmentally and economically sustainable.
In this first stage of planning for research beyond the expected decommissioning of the RRS James Cook in 2035, Dr. Peter Collinson and the NZOC team are looking to engage with industry stakeholders to scope the opportunities that will inform long term investment in the UK’s national capability.
