Niels Peter Revsbech

Niels Peter Revsbech is professor of microbiology at Aarhus University in Denmark. He received his PhD from Aarhus University in 1981. He has developed sensors for use in environmental research since 1977, and his microscale sensors for oxygen and nitrous oxide and biosensors for nitrate and nitrite are now commercially available and extensively used by the scientific community. Topics studied include microbial metabolism in sediments, soils, hot spring microbial mats, biofilms in air-cleaning filters, wastewater, and ocean water. He has been director or vice-director of his institute for about 20 years.
